Bashir Jones, 31, of the 100 block of West 26th Street in West Garfield Park, faces a charge of aggravated battery with a knife.
Jones is being held in Cook County jail on a $50,000 bond.
Police are looking into whether he used a black or brown sharp object to stab his girlfriend as she sat in her car on Friday afternoon in the 5700 block of South Calumet Avenue in North Lawndale.
About 12:30 p.m., law enforcement were called to the 7-Eleven store on West 25th Street around 1220 E. Grand Ave.
After officers arrived, a woman told officers she was waiting in a car on the porch waiting for her boyfriend when she heard a loud noise and believed she was stabbed. The woman and another witness were able to make their way to a car parked near the store after she had been stabbed.
A short time later, police located the victim, who police thought was being dragged behind the car. The victim told police she wanted to get police to help her because she thought she had been sexually assaulted and possibly assaulted with a knife. The victim told police she did not know her boyfriend.
According to the woman, a black knife was inside of the car and she did not see her boyfriend stab her. The next day, a witness reported that he saw a man in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven with a black long blade that she thought was a knife.
Police learned that the man had a long beard and gray hair from his beard that was tied back. The man left the parking lot and was wearing a white shirt and black pants. The woman also told police that he had a blue backpack and a black backpack which, along with the weapon, made her believe that something was in one of the bags.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office performed a ballistics analysis which showed that the black, 14 inch long black blade was found in the car. A second-hand source also showed that the blade was found near the victim’s car door but not inside the vehicle.
Police officers recovered a black kitchen knife from inside the car, which was used in a previous assault that occurred the weekend before.
